Rotations usually last up to 1 month. However, this can differ and depend on the clinical hours expected from the student to complete.

Students’ schedules can differ and depend on the clinical hours expected from the student to complete. Rotations can be done during the clinic’s operating hours.
What should I review or study before starting the rotation?
Students are encouraged to review pediatric physical exam techniques, common childhood illnesses, immunization schedules, developmental milestones, and basic growth chart interpretation. Pre-reading helps you feel confident on day one.
Who will supervise me during my rotation?
You will be directly supervised by a board-certified pediatrician with additional support from medical assistants and nursing staff.
Will this help me decide if I want to go into pediatrics (or outpatient primary care)?
Many students use outpatient rotations to gauge their interest in pediatrics, continuity care, preventive medicine, or primary care.
What are the expectations for initiative, professionalism, teamwork, and communication?
Outpatient clinics can be busy and fast, students often need to be organized, proactive, willing to learn, respectful, and manage time well.
Is this rotation helpful for residency applications or letters of recommendation?
Many outpatient rotations, especially well-run pediatric clinics, re valuable for building clinical experience, demonstrating interest in pediatrics or primary care, and obtaining reference letters.
Do I need to bring my own PPE?
Basic PPE is provided. Students may bring their own N95/medical masks if preferred.
Is the rotation part-time or full-time?
Both options may be available depending on scheduling capacity and what is needed for rotation completion.
